As a fellow advocate, I am amazed at the wonderful work Traja does to help victims navigate the world around them after suffering abuse. I have witnessed Traja work with law enforcement and the justice system to ensure the safety of their clients and see to it that women and children receive the services they deserve. The advocates are knowledgeable, professional and handle their clients with kindness and respect. Which is something they probably haven't experienced in a very long time.
I've been involved with TraJa since 2014 when my cousin and his girlfriend where murdered. Everyone with TraJa was there for the family even if it was just for comfort or support. They helped give advice, organized memorial walks and candlelight visuals. In 2015 I became a survivor of domestic violence and TraJa was there yet again. Now in 2022 my daughter is in need of help from TraJa and they are there 100%. No matter the time or day, TraJa is always there to help.
As a non-profit, our work involves Educating our community about the complex topic of grooming, sexual exploitation and sex trafficking, Advocating for victims and their families, and offering Resources. Since Domestic Violence and Sexual Exploitation often intersect, having an organization like TraJa available is a blessing, as it gives us yet another "tool on our belt" to help victims, and an amazing resource to share with others. Victims of domestic and sexual violence NEED the bulldog advocacy of TraJa, as we know how dangerous and complicated domestic situations can be...no one should ever have to go this scary journey alone, and thanks to TraJa they don't have to.
TraJa go above and beyond other abuse organizations. They give the needed support after the initial filing of a restraining order allowing the abuse victim to become the abuse survivor! Over a year ago As a family we were devastated by the violent murder of my grandson-in-law’s mother. The police failed our family. We were not able to get any information about the case and were not able to get her body released. Heather worked tirelessly to get the information we needed and guide our family. On the one year anniversary of the murder she drove three hours to support my grandson-in-law and our family, letting us know that we were not alone.
Our family had the pleasure of meeting Heather last year when we lost my son in laws mother Kally. Over the last year she has went above and beyond to help our family and this is something other dv places don’t do. Heather helped us from teaching us how to deal with the media, to getting back Kally’s body, to even marrying my daughter and son in law. She has also worked in helping my neighbor in getting a restraining order after our local shelter turned her away. After she’s successfully got my neighbor the restraining order she also reached out to several people and made Christmas happen for this family. These are just a few of the things that she has done that have not only touched so many lives, but changed them for the better
